Alvaro Uribe
Combining function with emotion and sculpture with digital modelling. The work of the designer Alvaro Uribe is characterised by atypical shapes and innovative materials. This creator of many iconic pieces was born in America, grew up in Colombia and now lives in New York, where he graduated from the Pratt Institute. Shortly after graduating, he set up his own boutique and design studio in Brooklyn. His designs have won several prestigious Red Dot Awards and Good Design Awards. Alvaro came to prominence with the iconic Plum Series, which has appeared in futuristic films and at the unveiling of the BMW i8 in Beijing.
The designer now works with a number of brands for whom he creates both products and brand identities. His work includes everything from furniture and lighting to kitchen utensils, decorations and electronics. All pieces have a common feature. They fulfil their function perfectly and bring joy to the user. In the Alax portfolio you will find, for example, the COLISEUM chair, which he designed for the manufacturer SLIDE. In addition to designing and consulting, Alvaro Uribe is also an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Pratt Institute, helping to shape the next generation of creative designers.
