Benedetta Mori Ubaldini
Milan-based sculptor Benedetta Mori Ubaldini has lived and worked in London since 1991. She trained as a restorer in Italy but was not creatively satisfied with this work. In 1994, she decided to enter Middlesex University in London and obtain a BA in Fine Art. Benedetta works with many materials but is best known for her innovative and exceptionally beautiful wire work. Each piece begins as an industrially produced rolled wire, which is gradually shaped by hand by twisting and joining the pieces together, creating a smooth appearance.
"What I like to do is fill large spaces with narrative, creating three-dimensional images and I like it when they are evocative, symbolic and poetic. The sculptures I create from wire have no internal structure at all, so the play between presence and absence becomes a magical element of the work, giving each piece the lightness of a revelation, like a trace from a memory or images from a dream." Benedetta has won many awards for her work and now collaborates with Magis, for whom she creates collections of hanging wire objects in 3D format.
