Jakob Wagner
Jakob Wagner was born in 1963 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and also received his first degree in design in his hometown. After graduating from several international schools, he received a diploma in product design from the Art Center in Montreux, Switzerland in 1992. He immediately set up his own studio in Copenhagen and spent the first five years of his career working with sports and professional equipment for clients such as Porsche and Pioneer. Gradually, however, he became interested in household objects. Of his design philosophy, Jakob says: "I often try to create a kind of balanced tension between opposing qualities in an object. I play with static versus dynamic expression, symmetry versus asymmetry, masculine versus feminine, organic versus geometric, etc. This is a challenge to our senses that makes the subject come alive and touches us emotionally." Jakob's work is frequently included in exhibitions in Scandinavia and around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where his first object was included in the permanent collection in 2006.
