Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders was born in Boxtel and, after being expelled from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, graduated with honours from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Institute of the Arts Arnhem. In 2000 he opened his studio in Amsterdam and a year later co-founded the design brand Moooi, of which he is also the artistic director. In 2014 he worked as product and interior designer and art director in his studio Powerhouse with around 50 international design specialists. They have completed over 1700 projects for private clients and premium brands such as Alessi, Louis Vuitton, Bacarrat, Bisazza, KLM, Flos, Swarovski, Magis, Puma and others.
The New York Times called Wanders "the Lady Gaga of Design" because she is unconventional, creative and full of energy. Wanders has received various design awards, including the Rotterdam Design Award and the Kho Liang Ie Award. He has lectured at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in Limn, the Academy of Design, FutureDesignDays and many of the world's most prestigious design academies. In July 2002, Business Week selected Marcel Wanders as one of the "25 Leaders of Change" in Europe.
