Robin Platt

There was already no doubt about Robin Platt' s talent during his studies at the London School of Furniture Design. He even won a New Design Award for his thesis work, a dining chair in cast aluminium! Success sparked a desire in the young designer to pursue an independent career. Together with Cairn Young, they soon opened their own studio in London and began to gain their first experience. Their next trip took them to Milan, where the budding designers caught the attention of furniture design studio Sawaya & Moroni in 1997. The collection that resulted from this collaboration led to further work for the Driade and Platt & Young brands.

A silver fruit bowl from 1998 ushered in an era of tableware and product design for Robin Platt, as well as a long-term collaboration with the Bavarian porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal. Platt and Young have decided to pursue careers under their own names, but remain in friendly and professional contact. In 2001, Robin's large family relocated to the French Pyrenees region. The designer celebrated Rosenthal's 125th anniversary with the successful Free Spirit collection, which unlocked the door to his first commissions for Lufthansa and Versace. Today Robin Platt lives and works in Suffolk, England. His work for Rosenthal can be seen as part of the permanent exhibition at London's Victoria and Albert Museum. In the ALAX e-shop we have for you, for example, the ergonomic SPACE office chairs that Robin designed for the Czech brand RIM.
