Ron Arad
Israeli architect, artist and designer Ron Arad studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem (1971-1973), then attended the Architectural Association in London (1974-1979). In 1989 he founded Ron Arad Associates, an architecture and design firm in London with Caroline Thorman . He is highly regarded in the UK, having been described by the local press as a leading British designer. From 1997 to 2009 he was Head of Product Design at the Royal College of Art. One of his first well-known products was the Bookworm bookcase, which was subsequently taken over by Kartell.
Arad's other notable projects include the design of chandeliers for Swarovski Crystal, the Bauhaus Museum in Tel Aviv, the Holon Design Museum, and the gardens of the Israel Museum. His projects are characterized by innovative elements, unconventional novel design and playing with shapes, for example with the Folly bench by MAGIS. He has also designed furniture for FIAM, SERRALUNGA and DRIADE.
