Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
Born in Brittany in 1971 and 1976, brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have been working together since the mid-1990s. The turning point came in 1997, when they presented their modular kitchen at the Paris "Salon du Meuble" and were discovered by Giulio Cappellini, the great master of Italian design, who gave them their first industrial commission. The Bouroullec brothers' collaboration with Vitra in 2002 then set the course for their further development. Among their best-known products for Vitra are the "Slow Chair" and the plant-inspired stackable chair "Vegetal Chair". This collaboration has resulted in links with other renowned furniture manufacturers, including Magis and Ligne Roset. For the French furniture market, the Bouroullec brothers helped develop the crystal-inspired "Facett" upholstered range, which created a whole new look in the upholstered furniture industry. Both designers have repeatedly demonstrated their interest in textile-related design opportunities, for example with their work for the Swedish company Kvadrat and Issey Miyake.
