Studio Irvine

Studio Irvine was founded by James Irvine in 1988 in Milan, Italy. He was born in London and graduated from The Royal College of Art in London in 1984. In the same year he moved to Milan. In 2004 he was elected RDI (Royal Designer for Industry) by the Royal Society of Arts in London and three years later was awarded an honorary doctorate in design from Kingston University. Following James Irvine's untimely death in 2013, Studio Irvine found a natural continuity in the persons of Mariala Rossiello Irvine and Maddalena Casadei.

The clarity of James Irvine's working method that he developed over the years gave Mariala Rossiello and Maddalena Casadei the strength to ensure Studio Irvine's future. James' rigorous yet ironic approach was a training in design, but also in life. Founded on the idea of design inspired by attention to ethics, the human factor and personal interaction, Studio Irvine has instilled a vision rooted in the classics of the Italian design school but shaped by a broader international spirit. Studio Irvine has collaborated with Amorim, Muji, Marsotto Edizioni, Kettal, Phaidon and Offecct, among others, for whom it has created the TOOL collection.
