Zanini De Zanine
Zanini de Zanine was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1978 and grew up watching his father, José Zanine Caldas, work. He apprenticed under Sergio Rodrigues, where he made his first cell phone. In 2002, he completed his studies in industrial design at PUC-Rio. In 2003, he started to produce furniture made of solid wood and two years later he started to create a new line of furniture pieces made industrially using controlled wood and different materials such as plastic, acrylic, metals and other industrial parts. To represent this new furniture line, Zanini created Döiz Design in 2009, later Punch Design and in 2011 Studio Zanini.
He has won Brazil's most prestigious design awards for his furniture creations in both segments and has exhibited at major national and international events in the area. Today Zanini designs pieces for major national and international brands such as French Tolix and Poltrona Frau and Italian Slamp and Discipline. In 2011 he was invited by Giulio Cappellini to collaborate with Cappellini, one of the 5 biggest furniture brands in the world. In 2012 he led the curation of the contemporary Brazilian design section: Modern and Contemporary Furniture at the Zeitlos Gallery in Berlin and the MUDE (Museum of Fashion and Design) in Lisbon. Among his works we can highlight, for example, the original LAGOA chair for Tacchini.
