Defne Koz

Defne Koz is a Turkish-Italian designer whose idea of design is influenced by her training at the Ettore Sottsass studio. Her interests range from new technologies such as digital sound systems to rediscovering the tradition of handmade ceramics. Common to all her projects is her distinctive design language and research into the sensory properties of materials. She has designed more than 160 products for companies such as Foscarini, Leucos, FontanaArte, Sharp, Alessi, Mobileffe, Pirelli, Slide, Egizia, Rapsel-Nito, Gabbianelli, Cappellini, Guzzini, Steel, RSVP, WMF, Vitra, Nissan, Casio, Alparda, MPD and Gaia & Gino.

For Alessi, she interpreted the metal wire frame technique, for Egizia she explored innovative decorations on glass, for Guzzini she worked on transferring the qualities of Murano glass to industrial injection moulded plastics, for Vitrashe she designed hi-tech gel materials for the bathroom environment and helped revive the tradition of Iznik ceramics in Turkey, and for Slide she contributed an elegant Nuvola pendant lamp to the collection.
