John Pawson

John Pawson was born in 1949 in Halifax into a traditional Protestant family. After graduating from boarding school, he worked in the family business for five years. In 1973 he went to Japan where he met his fateful teacher, Shiro Kuramata. Pawson's time in Japan awakened his talent for architecture and upon his return he graduated from the Architectural Association. After several successful projects, he became a sought-after architect and was commissioned by Calvin Klein. In 1999, Pawson began work on a project for a Cistercian monastery, which opened up new dimensions for him, not only in the field of design. In recent years, Pawson's office has also built large projects around the world that are typical of their minimalist expression. In the field of interior design, he has also established a collaboration with Driade.
