Konstantin Grcic
Konstantin Grcic trained as a joiner at The John Makepeace School and then studied design at the Royal College of Art in London. Since 1991, when he founded his own practice , Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design in Munich, he has been developing furniture, products and lighting for some of the leading companies in the design industry. Some of his renowned clients include Authentics, BD Ediciones, ClassiCon, Flos, Magis, Maharam, Muji, Nespresso, Plank, Serafino Zani, Thomas-Rosenthal and Vitra. Grcic has won various awards for many of its products. Among the most prestigious are the Compasso d`Oro award for the MAYDAY lamp for Flos in 2001 and the MYTO chair for Plank in 2011. The futuristic CHAIR ONE collection he created for Magis also deserves to be highlighted. Konstantin Grcic's works are part of the permanent collections of the world's most important design museums, including MoMA in New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Recently, Konstantin Grcic has curated a number of major design exhibitions, including DESIGN-REAL for The Serpentine Gallery in London, COMFORT for the Biennale Design in Saint Etienne and BLACK2 for the Istituto Svizzero in Rome. Solo exhibitions of his work have been shown at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Haus der Kunst and The Art Institute of Chicago. The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) has named Konstantin Grcic "Royal Designer for Industry". Design Miami also awarded him the title of"Designer of the Year 2010".
