The company for the production of original Artemide lighting fixtures was founded in 1959 in Italy by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazzeo. The brand emphasizes quality and unique design. The founders' philosophy was very simple - to create new directions and trends. That is why such world-class designers as Mario Botta, Carlo Forcolini, Vico Magistreti, Giancarlo Fassina, Ettore Sottsass, F. A. Porshe, Michele de Lucchi and others were invited to collaborate. Today, the brand is also represented by the renowned architect Sir Norman Foster.
New Artemide technologies
What is absolutely obvious for Artemide? Unremitting curiosity, creativity and the search for new technologies. A pioneering venture in the manufacture of luminaires was the creation of a completely new technology for the processing of plastics. Other achievements include the first ever use of the low-voltage halogen bulb for ordinary work lighting. However, the company's most important milestone was Richard Sapper's design, which led to the production of TIZIO lighting in 1972. This lighting had a low-voltage halogen bulb and used the lamp body design to conduct the current. Thanks to this unique feature, this lighting has rightly become world famous.
Artemide is forward-thinking and the company is well aware that the future lies in the hands of young people, which is why it actively supports various design workshops and seminars in cooperation with design schools that reliably identify young talent. The Artemide brand has also entered into partnerships with excellent Italian and international universities for research purposes.
