Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini was an Italian architect and designer. He graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1953 and started his own professional practice in Milan after working for some time in the office of his teacher and mentor Giò Ponti. His collaboration with Cesare Cassina launched his career and led to many other collaborations with manufacturers such as Bernini, Arteluce, Acerbis, Luci, Knoll, Lema, Fantoni and Artemide (for whom Livio Castiglioni created the historic Boalum lamp, among others).

In 1956 he co-founded the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale and throughout his career he has been involved in industrial design and architecture, focusing mainly on interiors. A great connoisseur of the woodworking craft, he established a long and fruitful professional partnership with master craftsman Pierluigi Ghianda.
